MUM GETS A MAKEOVER 5

Mum with nothing, she hates her bags!
My mum going for the Kawaii look.

KEY PRODUCTS:
BOBBI BROWN CORRECTOR
YSL TOUCHE ECLAT RADIANT TOUCH HIGLIGHTING PEN
BEAUTE LIQUI-GEL STAIN - FEVER

Hey guys, so I'm back home for 'now' so my mum returns on my blog. I got given free reign as usual and I always prefer to do a softer diffused look on her. She has a tendency to be heavy handed and it's very aging and unflattering. I'm also trying to veer my mum onto bolder lip shades. I remember when she used to rock Chanel red lips when I was really young and I always thought she looked awesome... she says her lips are too big, but accentuate your existing features!

L.F DOES S/S - GATSBY FEVER

20s love. I've still got Gatsby fever. Sultry and doll-like.
Playing around with some techniques I particularly like doing such as: pin-point highlighting, using pink hues for contouring and pencil thin brows

Hey guys, I'm back with a Gatsby/20s inspired make-up look. I didn't have a specific vision in mind when I was doing this, but I just kept layering and experimenting. I turned to some techniques I love doing and the 20s vibe just became apparent. There's a blue/teal hue running throughout this look and I think the blue highlight placed on the corner of the lips offsets the red beautifully.
Hope you like it!

L.F RAMBLES - NEWCASTLE-EDS

My friends boyfriend wrote this. I always love people's interpretation of my name. I don't mind, I know it's a bit of a weird one to spell/pronounce.
Fifi Lapin, so cute! Not really going to take advice from a rabbit, but I LOVE the illustrations inside. I'm also a sucker for a hardback book too.
Uniqlo is one of my go to places for garments. I really love all the collaborations Uniqlo brings out regularly (designers, artists etc) and I find the quality and workmanship pretty impressive for the price. I've bought quite a few pieces from their recent collaboration with Celia Birtwell this month. But I am a print fiend.
My local cinema had a anniversary 25 hour film day. I went to see the Swedish version of Let The Right One In. I've heard of it before, so I had some inkling of what it would it be about, but I went in thinking it was a thriller/horror.... but it's more of a love story with a few horror parts. I laughed at a really really awkward part during the film. The room was silent.
Tea Sutra. The finest tea emporium in Newcastle. It's become mine and Celeste's favourite haunt. Here's a photo of the fancy tea set up. Yum.
Fun Tuesday! I really enjoyed The Great Gatsby. I've not read the book before but it's been 'controversial' adaptation between fans of Fitzgerald and Luhrmann. Saying that I really enjoyed it. I didn't find it visually too distracting, but more so the music at times felt like it was there just to be cool/hip.... blah. Seemed irrelevant.
Then later that night I went to see Benjamin Francis Leftwich.... I wasn't actually a big fan or anything. I'm not usually an acoustic kind of girl but I tagged along with Celeste and I enjoy going to gigs anyway.... probably the best way to enjoy music. It was really awesome. A few fan girls about, but it felt really intimate. During the end, Benjamin went into the audience and told us to all sit down whilst he played Atlas Maps. I somehow managed to be at the front again. So I'm presuming there are videos out there of me being literally next to him not singing to his songs hahaha. Oh and one of the support acts there was a guy called Sivu. Oh man. He made that night for me. He was so so so brilliant live. I just listened to his music all next day.
Home! Theodore has a new partner in crime. Jeff. He looks like a Jeff.
I try to go back to see the Foundation Show at LCA every year. I didn't bump into any of my tutors but it's bittersweet when I go back. I have such fond memories of my time there, and it was definitely where I think I 'found' myself as a person/designer/artist.... whatever the fuck I am.
Superficial time! Only joking. A few bits from Illamasqua when they had that AMAZING 50% code.  I'm currently into contouring. Definition: YES YES YES.

Brief update with some bits from Newcastle and Leeds. Only a month left before Celeste leaves, and that really sucks. I initially thought I'd stick around Newcastle for a bit longer but I had finished early May anyway, and I found myself in a snowball of emotions as the weeks went on (so emo I know)... things aren't going too well atm but SILVER LINING. Or something. COME AT ME. Anyway sorry if I keep bringing up Celeste but she kind of unexpectedly came into my life, and she's become a really close friend in such a short space of time. And being such a private person I don't find it too easy opening up to someone... but it's something I knew would happen from the get go. I'm planning on going back to Newcastle for the degree show anyway, so I guess that will be my last goodbye. In the meantime I'm sorting 'stuff' out and enjoying my time back at my 'home home'. Nothing has changed too much, but I might be going back to my high school to help my textiles teacher out, which sounds fun to me.

L.F DOES S/S - PINK

Sophie Sumner for Beauty in Vogue by Miles Aldridge
Pink eyes, cheeks and face! I'm looking a bit hamster-like too here.
Webcam captures the lower lip line highlighting detail.

KEY PRODUCTS:
SUGARPILL PRESSED EYESHADOW - FLAMEPOINT AND LOVE+
MAC EYESHADOW - PASSIONATE
MAC LIPSTICK - FANFARE
NARS BLUSHER - TORRID

Hey guys, back in Barbie style! I picked up May's Italian Vogue recently and I fell in love with Miles Aldridge's cover. Personally it reminds me of a pink pin-up esque look? With MEGA highlighting. The flashes of orange on the lid and mid lower lash line adds some neon summer fun.
Hope you guys like this, I'm currently back home in Leeds for awhile to sort some stuff out.... I KEEP GETTING REJECTED. I know you are not suppose to take these things personally, but it sucks!

L.F DOES S/S - PRIMARY COLOURS INSPIRED BY VAL GARLAND

Interview with Val Garland discussing how she started and her career highlights so far. I'm obviously nowhere near as talented as she is, but it's inspiring to hear how she's self taught and how her pure talent has paved into the amazing career she has today. I know I sound slightly in awe. I am.
One of the looks from makeup visionary Val Garland's recent global M·A·C master class tour. When I first saw this look I just KNEW I had to recreate it. Blocks of sporadic primary colours contrasted with beautiful black flow of lines. So simple, yet so striking.
I think I'm particularly fond of the lips. It's like pop art meets Picasso.
KEY PRODUCTS:
MUFE FLASH COLOUR - BLACK, RED, YELLOW AND TURQUOISE

Hey guys, this is just a quick look I did whilst playing around which I really really enjoyed doing. I obviously had Garland's reference in the background but there's an organic painter-like style with this look which I found quite relaxing to do - it didn't have to be perfect, more about conveying an emotion. I've done a previous look inspired by her work here you can check out.
VAL GARLAND YOU ARE A LEGEND! Please let me intern/assist with you one day!

QUICK LOOK WITH NEW STUFF

BECCA BROW POWDER - ASH
Sick and tired of brow products with a red undertone? Check this out.
KEVYN AUCOIN THE SENSUAL SKIN ENHANCER - 5
I've been testing this for a good week and this stuff is GOOD. It's like a pot of MAC studio fix fluid for me and in real life it makes your skin look so flawless. Worth every penny.... so far.
BEAUTE LIQUI-GEL STAIN - FEVER
People were not joking when they said this looks like a vial of blood. Still testing but so far it's great.
E.L.F STUDIO MASCARA & SHADOW SHIELD
AWESOME TOOL. It's brilliant for clients to prevent any mascara transferring.

SOURCE
DR BRONNER'S LAVENDER LIQUID SOAP
Finally decided to try this out for deep cleansing my brushes and it's awesome. It even cleans my lip brushes which I've previously had to clean separately. It seems to keep my brushes in a good condition, smell nice and I'm pretty sure it speeds up the drying time too. Recommend!
VOGUE UK JUNE 2013 - KATE MOSS BY PATRICK DEMARCHELIER
Kate being the amazing cheek-boned glamazon as usual.
Face, brows, lips AND eyes. YES.
KEY PRODUCTS:
BEAUTE LIQUI-GEL STAIN - FEVER
KEVYN AUCOIN THE SENSUAL SKIN ENHANCER
ILLAMASQUA POWDER EYE SHADOW - FLASHER
BECCA BROW POWDER - ASH
MAC PRO SCULPTING CREAM - PURE SCULPTURE

Hey guys. So I had a small but very pricey spree on some make-up bits as a reward for finishing second year. I decided to test them all out in one go in one look, so yes, I do look very very done.

L.F RAMBLES - WHAT A WEEK

My friend Kathryn! Sorry for the low quality photo but the lighting was really poor. I forgot to take a before photo much to her relief I think (she looks lovely anyway). The brief was smokey eye and deep lip but 'natural' looking. So no TOWIE make-up style. I mainly focused on the eyes with a warm bronze toned smokey eye and lashes paired with a stained berry lip (Becca). Everything else was kept quite minimal. Kathryn was really happy with the lashes which I'm happy about because for a good while it's something I had to keep working at. The secret is DUO adhesive (best eyelash glue EVER), Bourjois lash applicator and to curl your real and false eyelashes together to bind them - otherwise you get the tell tale sign of an obvious divide between the two. Practice makes perfect though! Steady hand and keep checking they are adhered well :)
I look kind of cross eyed here but I thought I'd do some fun eyeliner when my flat mate had a food gathering night thing.
Me and the boy. I've not been out out with him in AGGGGES. It was quite low key till we ended up at this very camp bar (I LOVE camp men). A bit drunk, a few things happened but was good, or shall I say interesting. I'll say interesting. Definitely interesting.
This was taken on Friday, enjoying my local park. I had no idea but it's huge... and there's a MASSIVE pond. So I spent my afternoon half attempting to read my book that I've had for ages, laughing at the boys and watching people haul in some fishes.

Hey guys, small update. It's been an emotional week for me, I think I'm starting to worry my parents because ever since we've started skyping (well them working out how to do it) I've just broken down each time. Mostly about stupid things. LIFE. Also something I've kept on the low was I applied for a job at MAC as a retail artist.... and I didn't even get through the first stage. I was a bit disheartened.  I can only think I'm *still* lacking on retail experience front..... could be a whole host of things too.  But I was pretty gutted. But I'm going to keep trying - you have to work hard for something you want.

PLAYING WITH PIGMENTS

Prada Fall 2013
Tumblr. My first port of call when I'm looking for inspiration. The purple/berry undertone within the make-up caught my eye. It's not S/S at all but I'm a sucker for A/W make-up.
SOURCE
When it started getting to the point of being unwearable for everyday life, I referenced back to one of John Galliano's make-up looks which has this beautiful undone quality.
Webcam shot which highlights the different undertones and layers that the flash took out! Haha.
Layers and layers and layers of pigments!

KEY PRODUCTS:
MAC PIGMENTS - GRAPE, FUCHSIA, KITSCHMUS, PINK OPAL, SOFTWASH GREY, CHARTREUSE, NOCTURNAL PLUM AND DARK SOUL
MAYBELLINE COLOUR TATTOO 24HR - PERMANENT TAUPE
DANIEL SANDLER WATERCOLOUR CREME -ROUGE BLUSHER - SOFT PINK
AVON SUPERSHOCK GEL EYELINER - BLACK

Hey guys, I'm back! Second year is FINITO! And for the time being (before full time job hits me/reality) I get to indulge in make-up, films and reading. WOO. To get myself back into the swing of things I decided to grab my bag of MAC pigments and try to create a whole look out of them. I used a few cheat products but mostly I just used the pigments wet and dry to vary the intensity and finish.
My course mate has asked me to do her make-up for her birthday so I'm looking forward to working with a red-head. Porcelain skin and blue eyes.... ahh the perfect canvas!

PLAY 5

Punks class of 2013. Make-up by Pat McGrath. LEGEND.
Me pretending to be a punk. Make-up wise anyway!

Hey guys, just a quick post of me messing about. It's always a bad idea when I do a look late at night but after I stumbled across the image above of McGrath's work I felt so inspired to whip out some gel eyeliner and just experiment. The make-up isn't perfect, but you get the gist.

L.F RAMBLES - TUESDAY

This was from awhile ago (2 weeks ago?) but I'm using some products I currently love and recommend. This is my go to 'night' make-up, I tend to use warm brown tones around my eyes with lots of mascara (no liner) and off set it with a deep red/berry lip
  • LAURA MERCIER LUSTER EYE COLOUR - ROSEWOOD
  • E.L.F. STUDIO MINERAL INFUSED MASCARA
  • DAINTY DOLL LIPSTICK - 001
I've not had bubble tea in like 10 years or something. It's nice, but very sweet. Don't really want to know what crap goes in.
My friend was shooting for her pie related project and I decided to make a cat from the left over pastry. I literally kept laughing at that photo every 5 minutes. It looks like it's been through a brawl.
Uni work which I've just handed in as part of a live brief. I think this brief actually highlighted more than anything how little self confidence I have in myself and my ideas (in terms of my own creativity). It's nothing new. I'm very modest but also lack self confidence when I'm working in a new territory. I need reassurance but at the same time when someone  believes in your idea so much it also backfires and makes my feelings even worse because I feel like I have to live up to their expectations. I think this is a typical designer/artist trait. But I thought I'd just throw it out there. Cue George Michael's Faith song playing in the background.
More uni related things. I met Chris at a house party, we got talking and bam! He ended up helping me with my project soundtrack. Vodka is good.
Black leather shoes.......my weakness. I always confess to  A.J when I buy a new pair because I have so many shoes. He thinks I'm a bit insane. I am a bit insane.
Sorry for the massive plug about my work.. but hey I am at uni'. And unlike some students I do actually work. Maybe a bit too much at times. Anyway I got my awesome awesome friend Miriam to model for my comic. She's becoming my hand model for all my projects!
Literally across the road from where I live. LOL at the police. Oh Fenham.
This is probably really old but I only discovered it 2 days ago.

Hey guys, so my last two hand ins are due on Tuesday and then I'm FREEEEE! I'm going to be sticking around Newcastle for a good while I think. I need to sort out placements and other errands and actually have fun in my house for once because I'm usually so wrapped up with work. Lots of sensible drinking  and making the most of Celeste being around before she goes. And of course A.J, I couldn't of finished one of my briefs without him and he's got his own workload already. Thank-you. AND make-up! I'll be back to my normal schedule. Lots of fun make-up looks to make it up to you guys. Thanks for sticking around!
